Children bring their own lunches and snacks the same as school. Morning Sessions - 9am -11:45am The morning session is a structured session having specific times for indoor and outdoor activities. This ensures that staff are where the children are and also trains children in readiness for the routines of school. During the indoor time children are given opportunity to spend time in group discussion, developing essential listening and speaking skills. They hear stories, enjoy singing and movement as a group. Children also have a choice of a wide range of varied activities at tables and on the floor. This activity and equipment is provided to give children experience and learning in a specific curriculum areas of Reading, Language, Art, Maths, as well as skills that develop as a result. Writing, Cutting, Manipulating and Socialising skills all help children to grown in independence. During outdoor time children run, play, measure, climb, swing, balance, jump, mould and create with all the outdoor equipment. Important co-ordination and muscle control skills are developed as well as essential skills of sharing taking turns and organising play with others, which is so important if children are becoming social mature. Afternoon Sessions - 12pm - 3pm All children begin kindergarten in the afternoon class. This is an introductory class in that many children come having no experience of structured learning. Children are introduced to short mat-times where they are encouraged to sit still, listen to the person speaking and share ideas themselves. They learn routines gradually and are given encouragement to become independent in the care of their belongings. Children are given opportunity to enjoy the wide range of equipment and activities provided. Staff help where necessary, respecting the importance of children doing things for themselves. They are watched carefully during outdoor plan and spoken to frequently as they enjoy the outdoor equipment. With constant reassurance, children become familiar with the structures of kindergarten and begin to take a very active part in the programme. |
