About UsOur HistoryJennifer and Norman Wallace opened Titirangi Private Kindergartens doors in 1983. For over 30 years the Kindergarten has become an iconic fixture in the Titirangi community.
In 2010 the Rural Campus situated in Henderson Valley was established, providing education and care for up to 50 children over two years of age. Parents of some of the children from the Hilling Street centre choose to send their children to the Rural Campus at least once a week so they can experience a countryside setting. Children interact with farm animals and play in spacious indoor and outdoor environments. In September 1982 Jennifer and Norman Wallace received council permission to develop their house and section into a private kindergarten. In March 1983 Titirangi Private Kindergarten opened its doors. Very quickly it became clear that there were many more children wanting places in the kindergarten, than there was room available. So once again plans were put forward to expand the space to cater for additional children. At this time it became apparent that there was a real need for children with Special Needs to have a pre-school centre that would accept them, and provide the specific programmes necessary for their development. Jennie and Norman met with doctors, social workers, physiotherapists and psychologists and decided to open their afternoon sessions to children with Special Needs. Many of these children with varying disabilities have attended Titirangi Private Kindergarten and have gone on to be fully integrated into the school system. |
